It was a long and uneventful trip to Rome. That’s not to say that it was an entirely comfortable trip. We flew Lufthansa from Atlanta to Frankfurt and bought premium economy seats. While the seats were comfortable, Lufthansa has a long way to go with respect to premium economy perks. Aside from a bigger seat, you get essentially…nothing. You board with general economy and not with business or between business and economy (which most other airlines do). And to make matters worse, Lufthansa still boards by row starting at the back of the plane. That means that those who pay more for premium economy board dead last, and have to fight for bin space. You are also served meals on china, but it’s the exact same meal as coach. Not sure putting it china makes a difference. But this aside, I’d gladly pay for the large increase in seat space, recline and comfort.
The flight from Frankfurt to Rome was another matter. We flew on a new plane that had the thinnest seats I have ever seen or sat on. Take a look:

The seat padding isn’t more than an inch or so thick. And you can feel it. But these seats, designed just for them, lower the weight and increase the seating and thus increase profits.
20 hours after we started, we arrived in Rome.

It’s incongruous to see such old structures as the core of an incredibly modern city. We can’t wait to see more of the city.
The Hotel Artemide totally surprised us. To celebrate our 30th anniversary they upgraded us to the honeymoon suite. Not only is it huge, with a beautiful sun room, but it also has a private outdoor patio with a jacuzzi. Not a bad start.

We then strolled around the nrighborhood (near Termini train station), grabbing an afternoon snack and our first of what will (hopefully) be many glasses of wine.

Finally, we learned why you either never want an Italian to park your car, or why you always want an Italian to park your car. It’s all a matter of perspective:
